Jeffrey Scott Buckley (November 17, 1966 - May 29, 1997) was an American singer and guitarist known for his remarkable four-octave vocal range. He gained recognition after releasing his debut album, Grace, in 1994, which, despite slow initial sales, received critical acclaim and admiration from notable musicians such as Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, and Paul McCartney. Buckley, who had previously collaborated with experimental guitarist Gary Lucas, was in the process of recording his second album, My Sweetheart The Drunk, when he tragically drowned in the Wolf River in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 30. Following his death, some demo recordings for the second album were released on Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk. Additionally, early session work recorded in February 1993 was officially released in 2016 and 2019, along with several live recordings and a DVD of a live performance in Chicago. Before achieving fame, Buckley worked for six years as a receptionist at Magic Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
